ESTRATÉGIAS DE LEITURA EM MANUAIS DE AUTOESTUDO PREPARATÓRIOS PARA O TOEFL IBT

Resumen

O TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language - é um exame largamente utilizado como comprovante de proficiência em língua inglesa ou como pré-requisito para ingresso em universidades norte-americanas. No presente artigo, buscamos submeter a escrutínio estratégias de leitura descritas em manuais de autoestudo que preparam para esse teste. Para tanto, empreendemos uma revisão de literatura sobre esse tema, na qual definimos o que vêm a ser estratégias e habilidades de leitura, para, na sequência, cotejar essas noções ao conteúdo encontrado nos manuais. A análise evidencia que nesses, frequentemente, as estratégias elencadas são descritas como "dicas" ou "táticas"; estando entre as mais frequentes e relevantes: evitar o uso do processo ascendente, fazer uso de inferências, bem como de skimmimg e scanning. Dessa forma, a ênfase recai sobre uso utilitário e estratégico do ato de ler, sendo desencorajada a leitura voltada à fruição.
